On Saturday 17 March 2018, in Lyon, the first gathering of FFPLUM Flight Safety Officers took place.

The day was marked by team spirit, exchange, hard work and good company.

Almost every region was represented, and no fewer than 25 participants, including 20 CSVs, answered the invitation of Eric Galvagno, head of the Flight Safety Committee.

The very full agenda was covered at a brisk pace.

After a round of introductions in which each CSV presented themselves, the Flight Safety Committee was explained: its make-up, how it works and its missions.

Next, the roles, missions and objectives of the CSV were discussed so that every CSV knows exactly what is expected of them, what their powers are, and also where their limits lie.

Then Pierre Kolodziej, deputy head of the Safety Committee and in charge of RASU, gave a review of 2017 accident statistics, with particular emphasis on the types of fatal and serious accidents.

The morning ended with a talk by Louis Collardeau, Vice-President of FFPLUM, more involved than ever for our movement, on the latest European developments in microlight regulations and on the new developments concerning the Jeunesse et Sport medical questionnaire.

After the lunch break, Alain Jamet, DGAC inspector pilot, coordinator of the Light Aviation Safety Group and an expert in improving flight safety, spoke to give us an overall review of light aviation accident statistics using the ADREP accident/incident classification.

Next came Jean-Christophe Gibert, head of the Training Committee and FFPLUM-BEA liaison officer, who outlined the reform of instructors and described the R.E.V (Return to Flying) initiative, which has just started.

Finally, Alain Catalan, Secretary General of FFPLUM, not only described all the work carried out to modernise the head office but also explained how it operates and what it offers.

The day was also punctuated by breaks that allowed all participants and speakers to talk, get to know each other better, and make sure that a group dedicated to preventing accidents and improving flight safety has just been born.

By everyone's admission, the day was a success, and it is now up to each CSV to turn into action, in their own region, all the flight safety measures that were decided, in order to achieve the single objective for 2018 of reducing our fatal and serious accident rate.
