The Youth Pathway - support for young people training as pilots
The Youth Pathway is a new training support scheme for young people under 25, which supports the student through a partnership between the FFPLUM and the affiliated club or school.
This scheme is reserved exclusively for ab initio training; it does not apply to an aeroplane-to-microlight conversion or to training for a new class. The partnership is initiated by a commitment from the club or school and the student to the training pathway.
It is formalised by a commitment document signed by both parties and by the provision of a certificate of entry into training issued by the DSAC. The training must be given by an instructor who is an FFPLUM member.

Federation aid is provided throughout the student's training to help them financially along their training pathway.
The student sends the grant application to FFPLUM and receives the grant directly at each of the following stages of their training:
- Passing the microlight theory exam: €200; this grant is increased by €150 if the student previously holds the BIA
- Obtaining the certificate: microlight €200
- Obtaining the passenger-carrying rating €150
A total grant of €550, and €700 with the BIA
The “Youth Pathway” scheme increases the total grant by €150. The grant is also paid in several instalments as the student progresses, whereas at present the whole grant is paid at the end of training.
The Youth Pathway was activated on 1 December 2025; the documents needed to register will be available on the federation's website.
Students currently in training can join this new scheme by completing the commitment form co-signed by the head of the club or school and sending this document to FFPLUM together with the required supporting documents.
