The Occitanie Regional Microlight Committee held its annual fly-in at Castelnaudary aerodrome on Sunday 10 October 2021. About a hundred pilots came from the 13 départements of the region.
Castelnaudary-Villeneuve aerodrome hosted the Regional Microlight Committee fly-in on Sunday 10 October 2021, where the 13 départements of Occitanie were represented by about a hundred pilots.
“We organised this fly-in so that all the pilots of the region could meet, talk and get to know the new board and its president Bruno Rascalou”, explains Mathieu Farcy, vice-president of the Regional Committee and microlight instructor in the Aude.

The Regional Committee presented its upcoming activities, such as the next “flight safety” day at Montpellier-Candillargues aerodrome on 20 November 2021. “In 2022, we will also organise weekends on mountain flight safety and awareness flights. These are flights made with a qualified instructor in an aerobatic aeroplane to raise awareness of unusual attitudes, such as a spin entry or a spiral dive.”

With four microlight classes represented, the day was meant to bring generations together. “Gérard Duteurte, 83, one of the oldest pilots in Occitanie, was there with his Guépard microlight!” And as the team holds it dear, the day was also devoted to gastronomy. “Some pilots toured the region from the air, particularly the Pyrenean foothills, and then we introduced everyone to local cuisine, with products mostly from the Chaurien basin thanks to Cassoulet et Cie of Castelnaudary.” A feast with a local flavour, served and organised thanks to the volunteers of Beaugareuilh Air Forces, “a group of pilots from the Aude”.
