On Saturday 21 September 2019, from 9:30 to 17:00, the FFPLUM Corse Regional Committee held its Safety Day at CORTE LFKT aerodrome.
Despite weather that prevented participants from distant locations from reaching the airfield by air, more than half of the members in Corsica were present to take part in discussions on the Federation’s flight safety and training initiatives, and then on the major regional issues.
Participants were thus able to talk freely all morning with Jean Christophe Gibert, head of training and flight safety at FFPLUM, who helped them better understand the importance of all the actions undertaken at federal level in the interests of members in terms of safety, changes to machine regulations and instruction.
After a shared lunch at the Santa Barbara campsite restaurant next to the airfield, which allowed participants to get to know one another better and to welcome new members, work resumed on regional issues, on which Jean Christophe Gibert also provided a safety perspective.
Christophe Delquié, air traffic controller at Figari and class 3 and 4 microlight FI FE instructor, shared his experience of good practice in Corsican airspace, in particular on the implementation of the order of 12 July 2019 on aerodrome integration rules, which came into force on 2 September 2019. He also covered the issues involved in the sea crossing to the mainland.

Then Colonel (retd) Bernard Lemonnier, command liaison officer at Air Base 126, gave a very interesting talk on airspace sharing and procedures in the Romeo 65 zone of Solenzara air base, with a reminder of the rules in force at Ghisonaccia aerodrome, which lies within the zone, and a look ahead at future changes to this airspace shared with the military.
Finally, the President of the Regional Committee, Jean Laurent Santoni, spoke about the Regional Committee’s actions for the Environment (Natura 2000 zones, the Scandola and Bonifacio reserves, the Corsica Regional Nature Park), including protecting pilots against bird-strike risk and protecting Corsican wildlife.
After question-and-answer sessions with all the speakers, the day ended to the general satisfaction of its participants.
