2. Do you need a certificate to fly a microlight?

2. Do you need a certificate to fly a microlight?

FAQ6 December 20171 min read

Yes, you must hold a microlight pilot certificate, specific to each microlight class, issued by the Ministry of Transport after an examination that comprises:

* a theory part covering different areas of knowledge such as safety, regulations, navigation, meteorology and aerology, flight mechanics...

* a practical part demonstrating the candidate’s ability to handle a microlight of the class concerned.

Additional experience, checked by a flight test, is required to obtain a "passenger-carrying authorisation".

The minimum age is 15 to fly and 18 to be an instructor.

The pilot certificate can be obtained through a simplified procedure for people who already hold certain aeronautical qualifications (aeroplane, glider or helicopter pilot licence, or others...).
