Based at Equihen Plage (near Boulogne-sur-Mer), the Opale R ULM club had the pleasure last autumn (October 2020) of welcoming children and teenagers to introduce them to the joys of aviation… and of microlighting!

During October 2020, the Opale R ULM club welcomed several groups of about ten children aged 3 to 10 to its premises for activities around the world of aviation. The children had a first taste of microlighting, notably by getting into weight-shift and three-axis microlights. They also decorated their own model aircraft, using their imagination. Unfortunately, this introductory activity with children had to be put on hold because of Covid-19. As soon as it is possible again, new groups of children from the villages and towns around the club will be able to take part in the workshop.

Alongside its activities with children, the club also hosts visits for teenagers old enough to learn to fly. The young people were very interested, asking lots of questions about training, the minimum age for learning to fly and the financial aid offered by the federation. The visit was an opportunity to promote the BIA courses that start this year in the towns of Outreau and Le Portel. The health crisis means solutions have to be found to keep the BIA activities going. Working meetings are therefore being held in a meeting room set up in the club's hangar. These visits are much appreciated by the pupils, who are all very interested in microlighting.
