AIRSPACE FLASH NEWS - A NEW COMMON RADIO FREQUENCY DEDICATED TO MICROLIGHT STRIPS
News item of 3 March 2023. Last updated on 3 April 2023: some information may have changed. Latest news

From 20 April 2023, the radio frequency 125.335 MHz (in 8.33) for self-information will be introduced at all microlight airfields in metropolitan France.
The “protection volume” of this frequency is limited to a ceiling of 3.000 ft AGL and a radius of 15 NM, to avoid interfering with other users.
At the request of FFPLUM and after coordination with its European counterparts, the Directorate for Technology and Innovation (DTI), part of the Air Navigation Services Directorate (DSNA/DGAC), has chosen this frequency, which may be used at all microlight airfields in place of 123,50.
An information campaign for strip managers, instructors and microlight pilots will be launched and supplemented with the CNFAS and with the EMF for foreign pilots.
This first frequency dedicated to our microlight activities will be supplemented by others to make it easier to organise microlight events.
Details on the possible situations
- The microlight airfield does not use a frequency: no change. But if the radio is used, frequency 125.335 is to be used from 20 April 2023.
- The microlight airfield already uses a self-information frequency, so frequency 125.335 will have to be used from 20 April 2023.
- If the microlight strip is close to an aerodrome and uses a shared frequency under an agreement, there is no change unless the manager advises otherwise. The frequency to use at aerodromes is the one shown on the VAC chart or, failing that, 123.500, including at private aerodromes.
Here are a few recommendations
- Depending on the situation, microlight airfield managers will need to check and, if necessary, update the frequencies on their page in BASULM from 20 April 2023.
- Pilots should be very vigilant about official aeronautical information when preparing a flight and in flight, including when making a routine flight.
