On Saturday 22 July, a regional paramotor competition with 13 participants was held at the Chenay microlight airfield.
Jointly organised by the French Microlight Federation (FFPLUM) and the Chenay microlight club, represented by its president Thierry Charrier and very active members, this meeting aimed to bring in certificated pilots who wanted to discover the competition side. 11 crews were present, some of them flying tandem. National coach Pascal Vallée acted as race director so that the events would be a success on the technical side. The Nouvelle-Aquitaine regional committee supported the club financially to organise this competition.
The competitors came from all over the region and further afield: Charente, Vienne, Indre-et-Loire, Seine-Maritime, Finistère… Among them were three women and several participants for whom it was their first competition experience.
Thanks to favourable weather and good logistical support, the programme went off without a hitch on Saturday morning, starting with a navigation event over a 47 km course with waypoints to be identified from aerial photographs, followed by two precision technical events: take-off and bowling landing, where participants, arriving low with the engine off, must knock down as many as possible of five lined-up pins.
This meeting opens the 2024 competition season and will count towards the national paramotor pilot ranking.
Everyone went home delighted and is eagerly awaiting the next edition!
