Order of 12 July 2019 on the rules for joining an aerodrome
Dear Instructors and Structure Presidents
The order of 12 July 2019 on rules for joining aerodrome traffic comes into force on 2 September 2019.
We invite you to read it as it concerns all classes of aerodrome.
Below is an extract from the order specific to microlights
PART F. – SPECIFIC RULES FOR MOTORISED ULTRALIGHT AIRCRAFT (ULM) AND ULTRALIGHT GLIDERS (PUL)

- The use by class 2, 3, 4 and 6 microlights of aerodromes for which instrument departure or approach procedures are published is subject to the pilot demonstrating his ability to integrate into the aerodrome traffic of those aerodromes: – either by a certificate issued by a microlight pilot instructor under a training programme that includes this particular skill; – or by holding a radiotelephony rating under a valid pilot licence for any other category of aircraft; – or by proof of flying experience under an agreement previously issued by the competent air traffic services authority. Where air traffic conditions at the aerodrome or in the surrounding airspace so justify, this use may be prohibited or restricted by the territorially competent civil aviation safety directorate. These prohibitions and restrictions are brought to the attention of users through aeronautical information.
- Class 1 and 5 microlights and PULs may use an aerodrome for which instrument departure or approach procedures are published only with the prior agreement of the body providing air traffic services at the aerodrome or, failing that, of the territorially competent civil aviation safety directorate. At an uncontrolled aerodrome for which no instrument departure or approach procedure is published, use by class 1 and 5 microlights and PULs may be restricted or prohibited by the civil aviation safety directorate where air traffic conditions at the aerodrome or its surroundings so justify. These prohibitions and restrictions are brought to the attention of users through aeronautical information. 3. Use by microlights and PULs of aerodromes whose main assignee is the Minister of Defence is subject to that Minister’s agreement.
Below you will find the order of 12 July and a template certificate to show that your students have been trained; you are of course free to use a template of your own choice.
