It was in 1970 at Cerny – La Ferté-Alais aerodrome that the first event organised by a few enthusiasts under the name Fête Aéro-folklorique… the Amicale Jean-Baptiste Salis (AJBS), in collaboration with the Aéro-Club de France, offered a return to basics with the theme “Air Festival”.
Since then, “Le Temps des Hélices”, traditionally held at Whitsun, has become an unmissable event of the air show season in Europe, for its line-up and its ground entertainment and pyrotechnic show.
Each morning, the public can get close to the aircraft through the static display and talk to the pilots and mechanics. Various activities are on the programme (autograph sessions, a parade of vintage motorcycles and cars, historical reenactment groups…).
The afternoon is devoted to flying displays, with a show of more than 5 hours featuring around a hundred aircraft in the skies of the Essonne. Through thematic tableaux, the show tells the history of aviation, from the days of the pioneers to the latest-generation aircraft, civil and military.
