Elected officials working for everyone

The first Board of Directors meeting of the term (2021-2025) took place over two days at the Federation's headquarters in Maisons-Alfort. There are at least three a year. It was held entirely in person, and that changes everything about the working atmosphere. A federation is not a political party or a trade union, and your elected members are there to defend and promote the general interest of our activity, on a basis that is validated every four years.
The main difficulty of the elected members' work lies both in the technical nature of each division, which calls for fine expertise (on airspace, training and sport, for example), and in a constant concern for cross-cutting work, because a problem that may seem isolated (regulation, for example) will affect another area (insurance). Most subjects are complex (made more so for aeronautical federations, which have two supervising ministries: sport and transport), but we have to know how to simplify them in order to share and implement them. Between drawing up and implementing, delays are often long. A regulatory change easily takes two years, and the programme for a new season is planned a year ahead. Your federation is doing well (licences, finances) and your elected members work every day, with all the volunteers involved, alongside very committed employees. We try to respond as quickly as possible when a problem arises, but time can breed frustration. Historically, however, we have lacked the material and human resources to support the development of our activity. That applies equally to support for training and instructors, club life and support for elected members, and the structuring of our regional committees. We are working to make up for this lag at a time when it is becoming even clearer that microlighting is the simplest way to fly, with varied, innovative machines accessible at acceptable cost. It is on this basis that microlighting was born 40 years ago: a need for freedom with new solutions.
To do this we need everyone's help, and you are all welcome to strengthen our federation. It takes work, time and a great deal of passion.
The whole team will be at the MULM on 3, 4 and 5 September 2021.
Happy flying in this summer that is a little troubled on all sides!
