Microlights coming soon to Georgia

Microlights coming soon to Georgia

Federation news2 January 20241 min read

Georgia is going to introduce microlight regulations to allow this activity to develop, based on the model of "microlighting the French way"

As part of European cooperation between civil aviation authorities, on 11 December last a delegation of 4 officials from the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency, the GCAA, was received at the DGAC's offices in Paris for a working meeting to which the FFPLUM was invited.

These exchanges made it possible to explain our microlight regulations in detail, and also to present the organisation of our federation and the kind of constructive relations between the DGAC and the FFPLUM.

Our Georgian counterparts were enthusiastic about the success of microlighting in France and particularly motivated by the potential microlighting represents in Georgia, to develop modern, accessible recreational aviation locally and quickly.

A few days after our talks, they told us they would like to be able to rely quickly on a support mission from the FFPLUM with the help of a few volunteer instructors (speaking French and English), so as to start developing a training centre at the same time as these new regulations come in, in 2024.

To get this project under way, we are inviting instructors who are keen to take on this fine cooperative challenge to contact the FFPLUM secretariat, so that a support group can be set up to work with the heads of the GCAA (the Georgian civil aviation authority) and define the practical organisation of this mission more precisely. It also forms part of European cooperation.
