Paramotor film festival: the art of video in flight

Spring is here! With it come its warmth, its sun and its colours. All this is ideal for flying and for capturing those moments that we all know are incredible!
The paramotor film festival team aims to share these places, these landscapes, these slices of life, and is asking for any videos you may be able to send in!
But how do you go about it?

This article, and the following ones in a short series, will guide and advise you so that you can capture all the memories you want, and perhaps share them at this year's 2024 MULM!
The first thing to settle is what you want to film. You in flight, a place, a monument, the surroundings, a group, a trip, perhaps several things... This should let you decide what type of camera you will need (phone, GoPro, 360 camera...), what mount (tripod, pole, ChaseCam...) and when to film (before, during, after...).
A phone can quite often do the job if used well. On the ground, make sure you have the greatest possible stability, avoid moving too fast and do not film into the sun. You can use a tripod or a self-stabilising pole.
In flight, filming is trickier; you need a suitable mount, and for this you should choose a GoPro-type or 360 camera. If possible, choose a fairly recent model so as to benefit from digital image stabilisation. The automatic image settings are often well suited. In flight, a pole and a clamp, fixed to one or other of the tubes, is a good option.
A shot taken with a ChaseCam (a following camera attached to the trailing edge of your wing) is just as interesting and lets you include yourself in an overall view.
Remember to recharge the batteries and empty your memory cards before starting the session. Don't hold back, and shoot as much footage as you can so that you can choose the best moments when editing.
If you are a beginner, you will need to test as you go. Afterwards, you will need to compile everything you have filmed using software you will find directly on your phone or on your PC (more in the next episode...).
