Passing of Roland Magallon

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Roland Magallon, a microlight pioneer and trained engineer, who simplified and made usable the first single- and two-seat weight-shift microlights with the “Mosquito 210” in the late 70. Roland was also behind the “Baroudeur” three-axis microlight with Philippe Tisserant. He also created an important school in the Paris region, the Véliplane Club.
Roland Magallon’s funeral will take place on Saturday 7 September at the Cuers crematorium (83390), with a tribute at 11:30. The federation will be represented, and we wish to express our deep affection to his wife Hélène, his children and his loved ones.
No one is ever irreplaceable, but without Roland we would have a little less microlighting as we know it today. It is the talent of great inventors to make obvious what seemed impossible. We all owe him a great deal.
