Camp Air-Mer 2024: a successful edition!

Camp Air-Mer 2024 was held at the Lanvéoc-Poulmic naval air base (BAN) from 18 to 22 November 2024.
Among the 8 members selected for the week, Marion, 18 years old and a three-axis microlight pilot, gives us her fresh impressions:
“This experience was unique and full of learning. I would never have had the chance to do it without this exceptional partnership between FFPLUM and the Navy, and I realise what an honour it is for all eight of us to have been selected. Being in a small group also allowed us to get even more out of the activities on offer and to ask questions tailored to our individual needs.
We are either studying or looking for work in the aeronautical world, and our backgrounds are completely different! But this passion for aeronautics is a very strong bond. So even though we had only known each other for 5 days, we clicked straight away and shared so many unforgettable moments! This is an aspect of the camp not to be overlooked: it is not only the activities that benefit us, but also the relationships and enriching discussions with our fellow campers. It gives us perspective and we never stop learning.

This camp had an effect on me that I would sum up like this: aeronautics and flying are a passion, but you can perfectly well make a living from them! We saw this clearly through all the career talks on naval aviation and the experience sharing with professionals (pilots, but not only).
This Air-Mer camp is an immersion in a tiny part of what the Navy offers, and it opened my eyes to a field I knew far too little about. So I can say that my vision of the future has changed and that this camp may have changed my life. I am now asking myself more seriously: will I join the Navy later?
Thank you to all the staff for the efforts made to look after us. I am lucky to have been able to take part and I am convinced that every enthusiast should go through this at least once in their life.”

For Flavie, “this course was very complete and gave [her] a new perspective on the French Navy. The visits to the different flotillas (32 F, 33 F and 34 F) were very interesting, especially thanks to the enthusiasts who explained their jobs to [them]. Talking and exchanging with professionals in the field is a real plus in working out which armed service to become a pilot in. The 50S squadron was very welcoming.
She continues: “For my part, my best memories will be the flight, the visit to CESSAN, and the session in the pool, which helped me push my limits. Breath-holding was not my strong point, and being in a setting like this lets you surpass yourself and face your fears.
Of course, this stay would not have been the same without the kind supervision of Emmanuel and Noa from the Rennes CIRFA, and of Laurence, a civilian Defence employee.”
A big thank you to the French Navy for taking such good care of our young people during this week. Discover a few photos of the group in action below!
