ELA: FFPLUM’s Intelligent Microlight Assistant

The French Microlight Federation (FFPLUM) is launching an AI-powered intelligent assistant: ELA (available free of charge at https://ffplum.ela.amenai.net ), designed to help pilots find their way around and rediscover the federation’s many publications.

What is ELA?
ELA (Expert LLM Augmentation) is an AI assistant specialised in aeronautics, developed by amenai technologies (https://www.amenai.net/), an aeronautical software company based at Lannion LFRO aerodrome. ELA provides instant answers to questions about French ultralight aviation. Unlike general-purpose AI assistants, ELA is trained specifically on FFPLUM’s official documentation (for example ULM Info), which makes it a reliable first point of contact for pilots looking for advice, tips and information on microlighting.
How It Works
Accessing ELA is simple. Pilots go to the platform https://ffplum.ela.amenai.net/ and request a secure access link by e-mail. Once logged in, users can ask questions in French or English through a clear, intuitive interface.

The system responds in real time, generating detailed answers based on FFPLUM’s official sources. Each answer includes numbered citations that link directly to the source documents, allowing users to check the information and look further into specific regulations.
Main Features
ELA covers essential subjects including microlight regulations, pilot training procedures, instructor qualifications, maintenance requirements, safety protocols and airspace information. The assistant can answer questions ranging from simple regulatory queries to complex scenarios such as travel ideas – automatically providing the relevant regional considerations.
Users can start with suggested questions or type their own queries. The interface includes a conversation history that can be cleared at any time to start a new discussion.
Always check the information
Although ELA is powerful and focused on checking its sources, FFPLUM stresses that it is an assistant, not an absolute source of truth. It is essential always to check critical information against official sources. This responsible approach ensures that pilots use ELA as intended: a practical starting point for their research, and not a replacement for the official documentation.
Simplifying access to aeronautical documentation
By combining artificial intelligence with official documentation, ELA represents a significant step towards better accessibility of aeronautical information while respecting the sovereignty and control of the data distributed. This technology could serve as a model for other aeronautical bodies around the world looking to modernise pilots’ access to regulatory information.
