Class 5 in action!

Class 5 in action!

Federation news28 February 20191 min read

News item of 28 February 2019. It has not been updated since it was published: some information may have changed. Latest news

class 5

From left to right: Didier Eymin, Samir Elari, Laurent Salinas, Sébastien Perrot and Leandro Corradini

The previous issue of ULM Info gave a large place to the revival of Class 5, notably with the models offered by FlyDOO, now affiliated to the Federation as a for-profit organisation.

It is the microlight regulatory framework that has made it possible to offer innovative formulas, partly derived from free flight, without being tied by the certification constraints that weigh on the balloon.

Having Didier Eymin, in charge of paramotors and powered balloons, on the federal team makes it possible to draw on all his experience. It was indeed Didier who, at the time, popularised microlight Class 5 by bringing it into our regulations.

The number of powered balloons is quite marginal in the microlight fleet. However, there are no "small classes", and the appeal of Class 5 is phenomenal. People come to microlight flying by different routes. But Class 5 is not simply a dream; it is now an accessible dream. To that end, under Didier's responsibility, the federation has set up a team with a threefold objective. First, to clarify the regulatory scope of powered balloons with the publication of the new order. Next, to set up a reference centre of Class 5 microlight instructors, and finally to promote the activity at shows, through dedicated films, and so on...

Class 5 is reborn!

Here is the ULM Info no. 106 article devoted to Class 5.
