The final selections for the 70th International Air Cadet Exchange intake took place on 24 and 25 February at the Aéro-Club de France.
Of more than a hundred young candidates from all the aeronautical federations (FFA, FFAM, FFP, FFPLUM, FFVL, FFVV and RSA), only 61 were chosen for the final selection.
For the 2018 intake, FFPLUM had put forward and supported four candidates… and two were selected!
Séverine Deutsch and Maxence Le Flahec

Séverine, who will be 18 years old in a few weeks, discovered microlighting at a very young age thanks to her father. She began learning paramotoring at the age of 15 and passed her microlight theory exam last summer. She already has a handful of solo flying hours to her name, and took part in the women pilots' meeting at Chambley. She has also earned her BIA and regularly runs a "flying as a woman" stand in partnership with her club Bambi Air Club and FFPLUM Grand Est. Backed by her club, which champions air safety in particular and runs various activities for young people and future pilots, Séverine submitted a well-motivated application to the Air Cadets and was delighted to be selected for the 2018 intake, right at the start of her adventure in the world of flying.

Maxence started flying in 2012 at the Papangue ULM club in La Réunion, in a "family" atmosphere, on a three-axis microlight (FK9). That first experience was decisive for his progress in aviation: he quickly passed his BIA and, once he had obtained his microlight pilot licence in 2014, made a first attempt at the Air Cadets selection and joined ENAC to become an airline pilot. Always keen to fly, he joined the Aéro-Club Toulouse Midi Pyrénées based at Toulouse Lasbordes, where he discovered a new machine, the Ikarus C42, and a new, more formal flying environment. Maxence, barely 20 years old, already has nearly 60 flying hours and will soon hold his passenger-carrying rating.
We warmly congratulate them and wish them every success in their future careers as pilots. To reward and encourage them, the federation will cover the cost of making their official air cadet uniforms.
