Satisfactory first rounds

News1 November 20182 min read

News from 1 November 2018. It has not been updated since it was published: some information may have changed. Latest news

Wednesday 31 October: at last, a real flying day

1st briefing at 6.30 am with unsuitable weather.

2nd briefing scheduled for 10, with flights starting at 1 pm, the plan being to fly the last pilots to validate the 1st round of PF1 and propose a second round.

1st round:

Alexandre MATEOS sets the best time (2 seconds) ahead of Greek pilot Dimitri KOLLIAKOS and Jérémy PENONE (2 hundredths).

Nicolas AUBERT is 4th, Jean-Emile OULHA 6th, so all the French are in the TOP 10.

Among the women, Marie MATEOS takes a very fine 11th place overall: 1st woman.

Aurélia HALLE flies a flawless course with 15th place overall, i.e. 2nd woman.

As for PL1, faced with the wait, the pilots who really want to "let loose" can no longer be held back.

Boris TYSEBAERT, in great form after all his setbacks, flies a very fine course and takes provisional 2nd place behind the reigning world champion, Poland's BOGDAL.

Yann LEUDIERE achieves a fine 4th place.

Cyril PLANTON runs into some wind-related difficulties in this round but still takes a good 7th place in the provisional ranking.

The conditions were so difficult that the reigning Polish champion ended up in the water, fortunately without serious consequences.

2nd round:

The round proposed for PF1 was interrupted in the face of more difficult weather.

Jean-Emile OULHA takes 2th place ahead of Jérémy PENONE in an excellent course.

At this early stage of the competition, the staff are satisfied with these first results and with the team's behaviour. Some fine-tuning is still needed; adapting flying technique and equipment to the aerology will be decisive for the rest of the competition.
