Appeals, derogations and special cases
For candidates with disabilities, if the disability gives rise to a contraindication, the usual doctor completes the certificate when the first licence is taken out, ticking the boxes concerning the disability “subject to the opinion of the federal doctor”.
They answer the questions asked on the derogation process.
On this condition, and by filling in as fully as possible the details of the adaptations and specific adaptive equipment according to the information supplied by the applicant and/or a professional skilled in handling candidates with disabilities, the usual contraindications are no longer necessarily binding.
In this case they supplement the file with tests or consultations to pinpoint the impaired function or functions, the latest blood test results if any, and a prescription. They send the most complete file possible to the medical secretariat.
The Medical Committee will help you find adaptive devices and confirm the derogation if compensation can be made and/or the equipment adapted so that you can fly safely.
For renewals in later years, the usual doctor may directly renew the certificate of no contraindication for the activity, specifying the equipment and adaptations that the Federal Medical Committee validated when the first licence was arranged, provided that your condition has not changed. Otherwise, the procedure is the same as for a first licence.
In addition, certain contraindications not related to disability may also be subject to a derogation after the opinion of the Medical Committee.
