Silvio Vio: ambassador for microlighting

More than 500 people were there (observing social distancing) on Monday 19 October for the magnificent religious, air and friendly tribute paid to Silvio Vio on the apron of Châtellerault aerodrome. Those present will long remember the dignity and warmth of the ceremony, which reflected his family, his wife Véronique and his children Aurélie and César.
For 15 years, Silvio was a charismatic figure in our community. He combined remarkable qualities: a zest for life and a love of people, a passion for enterprise and courage, a taste for freedom and sharing, great rigour and a professionalism recognised by all. On the Tour ULM, at Blois, at Le Bourget, with young people and on many other occasions, Silvio was a tireless ambassador for microlighting. The federation owes him a great deal.
The circumstances of this tragic accident, which claimed 5 lives, will be known at the end of the BEA investigation. Alongside this accident, it is likely that advances in technology will allow us to introduce anti-collision devices that are not certified and not compulsory but encouraged, compatible with other systems, like those gliders have used successfully since 2009. We must explore this path, together with the CNFAS and the authorities.
