In response to statements made by Léonore Moncond’huy at her city council meeting on 29 March 2021, the media outlet Aerobuzz.fr has launched a “Postcards” campaign in which anyone can take part. The FFPLUM is joining this initiative.

Aerobuzz.fr asked its readers to send the Mayor of Poitiers, in person, a postcard explaining how a childhood dream made them what they have become in the aviation world. On 29 March 2021, Léonore Moncond’huy had in fact stated that flying should no longer be part of children’s dreams.

For Gil Roy, founder of Aerobuzz.fr, the Mayor of Poitiers’ statement gives us the opportunity to restore the reputation of aviation. As we have seen, in the days following the Poitiers council meeting, aviation received unexpected support from leading figures and media.

“This initiative is not about starting a showdown or making grandiloquent statements” says Gil Roy. “That is the best way to lose our supporters and find ourselves in the category of those who cling to their ‘privileges’ and do not want anything to change. Between farmers, hunters (on foot or with hounds) and 4x4 enthusiasts, that category is already well filled. It is very much in our interest to stay out of it! Let us not add fuel to the fire.”

For a week now, cards have been arriving on the Mayor of Poitiers’ desk. And the messages are sincere and calm. In just a few words, the senders describe their love of aviation. Simply, with no spirit of revenge. Unknown names rub shoulders with great ones…

“We deliberately chose to make it a bit harder so that the postcard would be a real commitment.” Finding a postcard, choosing the right words, buying a stamp and going to the post office is more involving than a simple click. There is also a hint of poetry about postcards…
