Discovering the adventurers of aeronautics and space

In October, the ISAS Year 10 students went to the lycée’s CDI (resource and information centre) to put their detective talents to use for an exhibition on the adventurers of aeronautics and space.

No fewer than nine subjects were offered to the class, and the students worked on them in groups. From the Montgolfier brothers to Katherine Johnson, via Louis Blériot, Amelia Earhart and the heroes of the Aéropostale, the students discovered a whole panorama of the great names of aeronautics and space and shared them with the other students of the lycée through an exhibition of their work in the CDI itself. “How did Charles Lindbergh fly his Spirit of St. Louis?”, “Which mountain range did Adrienne Bolland cross?”, “Who were the wing walkers?” or “What were the conditions of Blériot’s Channel crossing?”: fascinating questions that will find their answers in this exhibition!

A research project that gives pride of place to cross-curricular work centred on aeronautics. Katherine Johnson was highlighted in several subjects, notably in English with the study of the film Hidden Figures but also in French through reading the biographical novel Combien de pas jusqu’à la lune by Carole Trebor; works that retrace the journey of this brilliant mathematician who, while remaining in the shadows, made the Apollo 11 programme possible.

Inspiring!
