The 2019 Coupe Icare took place from Thursday 18 to Sunday 22 September 2019 at the Saint Hilaire du Touvet and Lumbin sites, in Isère (38). A good number of Federation members were there to staff the federal stand and meet members present at the event.

The Coupe Icare is a tremendous gathering of air enthusiasts around everything that flies! The days at Saint Hilaire du Touvet are festive, with costumed demonstrations, paragliding take-off contests and demonstrations of aircraft, including microlights. One memorable display was by Samir ELARI, with his weight-shift microlight trailing a ribbon 500 metres long!

The Coupe Icare is also a show with a great many paramotors. Aircraft displays, manufacturers’ stands and demonstrations took place throughout the weekend. Beyond the festive atmosphere, the paramotor pilots all wanted to pay a further tribute to Lydia, a young Belgian and seasoned pilot who came every year and who tragically died this year. A heart was formed in her memory on the paramotor strip at St Hilaire du Touvet on Saturday 21 September.

During the two days of the 2019 COUPE ICARE, on 21 and 22 September, members of the ISER’ULM club led by Rocchino.Ceschi welcomed many spectators to the temporary LUMBIN strip, along with a few exhibitors from the microlight world who, for the first year, were able to have a stand. More than fifty introductory microlight flights were made in three-axis microlights and gyroplanes, and a few pilots flew in to land on this strip; unfortunately other registered pilots had to withdraw because of forecast bad weather. Over these two days, members of the AURA Regional Microlight Committee, helped by several volunteers, had set up on the LUMBIN exhibitors’ field, next to the paragliders’ landing area, their stands housing the two flight simulators and all the promotional material for our activity; around three hundred people, young and old, were able to try the joys of three-axis and weight-shift flying. On Saturday evening on the temporary strip a friendship drink was offered; the federal team, led by its president Sébastien PERROT, came this year with many representatives, who talked with the many visitors and presented the major projects completed and planned by our federation. A full weekend for all enthusiasts and players in the world of microlighting and air sports. A great satisfaction for the organisers.
Come in numbers to the next 2020 edition, because many of the people we met said the same thing again and again: you have to see it at least once!!!!!
