ISAL meeting: second annual meeting
On Wednesday 13 November 2024, the ISAL (Light Aviation Safety Body) meeting was held at the DGAC, chaired by Alain Jamet, bringing together representatives of various federations and several aviation bodies: BEA, BEAé, OSAC, SAR, DGA, DSAC and DSNA.
Louis Collardeau, 1st vice-president, and the National Technical Directorate represented FFPLUM.
The meeting made it possible to review the 2024 safety events, share our actions and draw up areas for safety improvement over a 2028 horizon.
In summary, even though the year is not over yet, 2024 light aviation accident statistics are at a historically low level, including for our microlight activity, with 7 fatal accidents to date. Several successful parachute deployments in microlights can be noted.
Among the subjects discussed and the actions under way, there was a particular focus on loss of visibility in flight, runway incursions, solutions to reduce the risk of spins for the WT9 (see FFPLUM newsletter of 05/09/24), engine failure events involving Rotax 912, reducing the risk of mid-air collisions through electronic conspicuity, and a review of the implementation of the new RTBA.
A fairly packed agenda, with several courses of action identified as a result of the exchanges between the participating bodies.
The next ISAL meeting will take place in April 2025.
