Below you will find a BEA publication from February 2025, particularly rich in lessons for our activities:

“Objective destination”: on a cross-country flight, the microlight pilot is caught out by deteriorating weather along his route and loses visual reference with the ground. He quickly decides to deploy his emergency parachute.

He lands unhurt under the canopy. The microlight mainly suffered damage to the landing gear.

The pilot (500 flying hours), convinced of the usefulness of the parachute, mentally prepared for its possible use before every flight: he would remove the pin and simulate the motion of opening and triggering the emergency parachute. By being ready for this eventuality, the pilot put every chance on his side.

This BEA report can be read at: https://bea.aero//les-enquetes/evenements-notifies/detail/accident-survenu-a-lulm-multiaxes-fk9-identifie-10na-le-13-10-2024-a-vesvres-21/

And if you have not already done so, subscribe to the BEA newsletter to keep up with the events analysed by the BEA and the publication of their reports, always rich in safety lessons for all pilots: https://bea.aero/acceder-a-notre-newsletter

Every year the parachute saves lives! Think about it!
