Friedrichshafen air show

The Friedrichshafen show is to general aviation what the Geneva show is to the car industry!
Most manufacturers of light aircraft - aeroplanes, gliders, helicopters, microlights... - are there, along with everything that revolves around our flying machines: equipment, on-board accessories, engines, services, insurance...
It is also a chance to meet, in one place, many of our microlight pilot friends and our counterparts from the European Ultralight Aviation Federations grouped within the EMF, and so to take stock of what is happening beyond our borders. In particular, the big topic of the moment will of course be to share and understand how each country is preparing its regulatory changes around ultralight aviation which, let us recall, fall outside EASA's remit through the famous "Annex 1 and its mass opt-out", which sets out the fundamentals of microlight flying while leaving each European Union state responsible for setting its own rules under the authority of its Civil Aviation Directorate General. We must be well aware that this system strongly preserves the specific nature of our declarative system, which many countries envy, as their microlights are sometimes governed by a quasi-certification system that comes with a whole package of technical and administrative constraints for both machines and pilots. We should appreciate how lucky we are!

This show gives us the opportunity to communicate progress on regulatory changes to our neighbours. To this end, a conference in which FFPLUM took part presented and compared the outlines of our future regulations, in particular the possible changes to our microlights' masses, and explained our choice of "L'ULM à la Française", with an increase of around fifty kilos in our aircraft's carrying capacity, without touching the fundamentals of our declarative system.
FFPLUM is also present through the PNVM (National Mountain Flying Division) on stand B3-409 of the Southern Alps, to publicise the excellence of our training to foreign pilots who want to discover or improve their mountain flying.

We look forward to seeing you in the aisles of Aero-Friedrichshafen 2019, and on the stands of the manufacturers, distributors and our insurance broker.
