Safety in Figures - BSV no.51
The table below summarises the accident statistics recorded from 1st January to 30 July 2018, ranking casualties by severity and distinguishing purely material-damage accidents. The second table shows accidents involving microlights registered in France that took place abroad with foreign crews.

The monthly statistics are updated according to the latest information available (see the chart below), although not all minor accidents may appear in the current month as they sometimes reach us late (updates for older accidents received recently).

Number of events by severity and by month (all microlights registered in France)
At the end of July we see a number of deaths comparable to 2017, whereas at the start of the month the trend was even downward compared with previous years.
This month we mourn one accident with two deaths following a mid-air collision; the first information on the circumstances suggests a formation flight that went wrong.
We would simply remind you that flying close to other aircraft is far harder than a wing waggle to greet colleagues on the ground; it requires the discipline of professional pilots and must never be improvised. If in doubt, it is better to approach an instructor to review our flight objectives, as some configurations can very quickly lead to dangerous situations.
Happy flying to all, with the same prudence as ever.

Hot-weather operations
It is summer, and this year it is a particularly hot one. While we suffer from the excessive temperatures in our daily lives, they also have significant consequences for our flights and our microlights. Once again, we can use the I.P.A.D.E model to manage the various threats we will face on these increasingly frequent heatwave days.
The Analyst's analysis
In May 2017, the BEA published its report on the accident involving the FK12 Comet microlight, registration 974-GJ, which occurred on 27 August 2016 at Sours (28). Both occupants of the aircraft were seriously injured.
Training Corner
It was a great party, but...
The 23th Microlight Tour has just ended, and what a celebration it was, but... 128 machines, 4 classes, 270 people, a logistics convoy run with great skill, marvellous scenery, dream weather, quite simply a success. We all got home, everyone present and correct, which is what matters.
