Safety in Figures - BSV no.48

Safety6 March 20182 min read

The table below summarises the accident statistics recorded from 1 January to 30 April 2018, ranking victims by severity and distinguishing purely material-damage accidents.

accidents bsv48

The monthly statistics are updated according to the latest known information (see the chart below), although not all minor accidents may appear in the current month because they sometimes reach us late.

stats bsv48
Number of events by severity and by month (for all microlights registered in France)

In barely four months we have had to mourn six deaths, some of which appear to be linked to low-speed flight configurations, resulting in stalls in the circuit, therefore at low height, and collisions with obstacles on the ground (investigations are under way).

In general, at the start of the year do not hesitate to contact an instructor for a return to flying (REV) if necessary. It is also strongly recommended to clean the fuel systems before going flying on aircraft that have been stored for several weeks (draining water from the tank, filters, cleaning deposits in the carburettors, etc.) to avoid engine failures.

Wishing everyone pleasant flights.
